Week 35: Officially part of the Spain Madrid Mission
Hola tíos and tipos and troncos.
It's been a good rato since I last wrote a vaina. Some things have happened in the past couple of weeks. Things like surprise parades. Normal day walking down the road and then the trumpets. All the sudden a line of people with robes and sticks are walking down the street in front of us. Turns out it was the birthday of the city's virgin lady or something.
Last Monday we went to Granada and visited the Alhambra. The Alhambra is basically one of the biggest and oldest castle palaces in Spain. We started off walking through the gardens. Imagine a lot of trees and bushes and flowers but they are organized so it looks cooler. With some pools and fountains and paths. We walked through those and then to some castle towers. The place was built by the Moors, who conquered Spain in the 8th century. The Moors are Muslim people from Northern Africa, so their architecture is different than normal Spanish buildings. More blocky and simple. The castle towers are pretty fun and cool, but after that we went to the actual palace. In the palace things are a lot more ornate and fancy. The walls and doors and ceilings have designs. Usually writing. Some of the walls said things like "there is no winner, there is no conquerer, only God". But in Arabic. In the palace there are even more fountains. It's mostly a collection of big courtyards with fountains. On the inside, the ceilings have interesting designs too. They are made with some kind of luminescent rock that glows at night. Final Alhambra vote: 10/10 would recommend to a friend. Tip: don't go in the summer it's really hot.
Other news: I am officially part of the Spain Madrid Mission. Not much changes except I get more fun places to go to. I'm staying with my companion Elder Wiseman until he dies (goes home) in 6 weeks.
We are still finding and teaching people. It's a little more difficult here in Jaén though. There aren't as many people to teach like my last area. But I like to remember this scripture in 2 Nephi 2:8. " Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah". It doesn't really matter how many people we have to talk to, as long as we're talking and spreading the Gospel.
This week we had a service weekend. We went to the food bank on Friday and sorted fruit. They've got all kinds of fruit there. big fruit small fruit red fruit blue fruit. I ate an orange Spanish pepper it was pretty good. Then we did another move on Saturday because I guess the whole town heard that we are the best movers here. And we also did yard work for a lady in our ward. We got some food for our service. And churros. Spanish churros.
