Week 54: Crazy, busy, intense, nonstop.. and Halloween!
Buuuueeenos días chavales!! It's a great rainy morning here in the outskirts of Madrid. But there's nothing better for rainy days than groovy EFY music.
This week was pretty intense. Halloween in Spain isn't like Halloween in the United States, but it's still a thing. I kinda forgot about it until we saw a bunch of little kids with spooky masks and plastic swords running down the streets. They infiltrated our church too, and started attacking us when we walked in. Turns out they were member children so it's ok.
We talked to a lot of new guys this week. We met with this less active member Jorge and found out that he went on a mission to Chile like 15 years ago. Stopped doing the little things after he got home and went inactive. But now he's coming back. Similar with Yanina, she was baptized a few years ago then moved, stopped doing the little things and went inactive. Now we're roping them back in and helping them remember why. Reminds me of that scripture "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass". You can't expect to understand something, to gain knowledge, to make progress, or to stay strong if you don't take those small basic steps. You can't expect to gain or maintain a testimony if you don't do the little things and exercise your faith.
The other day we messaged a random dude on Facebook, and got him to come to our English class. We also invited like 20 other people to come to our English class, and almost half showed up which is pretty good. But the Facebook guy showed up, his name is Carlos. More on him later.
There's an inactive member named Fran he's in his 20s and we're trying to find him friends. We found out that he likes Yugioh, and found another member his age that likes Yugioh.. You know what that means. We brought the member to his house and got them to play Yugioh.
The idea of a Halloween party has been floating around in our branch for the past 2 months, and no one really ever did anything about it. So we called a leader and asked if we were gonna do it. He was like yeah dude were gonna do it tomorrow invite everyone that exists. So we sent a mass party message to everyone we know about the crazy fiesta that's going on tomorrow. Turns out it wasn't actually a real thing though, but we had already sent the messages. So we had to pull through and DO IT. The next 2 days was a blur of invitations and hot dogs and spiderwebs and spooks. We pulled everything together and did the party. It was a great success and we got all of the people to come. The best part was probably our costumes.. (Share this post 10 times to see the picture.)
We met with Carlos the next day, which means that we have been with him every day since we found him. That's some pretty good stats.
I do like food adventures--yesterday we had Bolivian arepas at a members' house. It's like a small thick tortilla with egg on top. It's not super intricate but it's really good. Earlier we had a Spanish soup at a different member's house. It was really good (not really sure what was in it other than mystery meat and some type of noodle?) Idk if I've talked about kebab much, but that's the Missionary special. I think it comes from turkey or something but it's a giant slab of meat on a rotating thing next to a fire so it cooks. They slice the meat off and put it into burrito type form and also pizzas and sandwiches. It's amazing and there's one right under our piso and we're super good friends with the Pakistani dudes who own it. We go there all the time and sometimes they give us free stuff. This week was probably one of the most crazy busy intense nonstop weeks that I've had.
