Week 19: Teaching the message
Buenos días hermanos. Esta semana fue muy interesante.
We found 2 new guys that we are teaching. They're friends with 2 other guys that we were teaching too. They're all from Honduras, and committed to be baptized! We restarted teaching Israel. He's 20 and Ecuadorian. He's our really good friend, and this week he also decided he wants to be baptized.
We usually start teaching about the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ, and what our purpose is in this life and what we can do to be happy and successful. Some people are happy to hear this message, but others are not. Through this I have learned a lot about faith. When people close their hearts and don't listen to this message they are missing out on the most important thing in their lives. But if they just have a little bit of faith to listen and act on the message, then their lives will change.
A couple months ago we ran into a missionary from a different Evangelical church. His name was Matías, and was a super nice 20ish year old Mexican guy. He was super smart and knew everything about the Bible. Fast forward 2 and a half months without hearing anything else about this guy. My new companion is like "hey, do you know a Matías?" Apparently, my companion taught Matías for a long time when he lived in a different city, and then a year or so later they both end up here in a little pueblo... Lorca. So we went over and found Matías the other day and he recognized my companion and was super happy. We talked for a while and got his number and were gonna teach him. This was definitely not a coincidence and there are some big plans ahead for Matías.
It is getting warmer in Spain and it's also been raining for the past week. Spanish is progressing pretty well. I've kind of gotten used to the schedule but that doest mean that I like it or I'm not still tired, haha. Sometimes I would kill for a nap but it's ok. We do teach English classes, so that's fun. The attendance isn't very stable--sometimes there's like 8 people and other times like 2. But it's good practice for me and for the class, too. The word of the week is pichón which means young pigeon.
